Nedelja kodiranja – Let’s do coding

This year, pupils of the fifth grade of the elementary school „Sveti Sava“ from Nis,for the first time had the opportunity to participate in the European programming week. From October 16th to October 20th, 112 pupils participated in workshops where they made their first „programming steps“. I tried to explain  them that: 1) programming is easy and fun;  2) they do not need any pre-knowledge to be able to deal with this 3) they did something similar when they were playing the famous children’s game „Hi king! What time is it?“. They quickly understood  the programming logic and also had a lot of fun  creating  the Star Wars game.Their smiling faces and comments show that they really enjoyed these classes. Since the school material for the second half of the year is Scratch,I think our participation in the Code Week  stimulated their interest in programming and have created a good basis for mastering the lessons that follow. I owe a great gratitude to the Regional Center in Nis, which gave us their computer classroom for this occasion. All of us really enjoyed the atmosphere, the appropriate technical equipment and also the great company. We tried to help each other when someone „snaps“ somewhere, because probably in the future they will work in teams, and programming classes are ideal for creating a team spirit.
